Living in Richmond for more than a few years, and you tend to get a bit jaded about all of the lobbying that comes with General Assembly. How many times can you stand in the cold holding a sign and hope you are making a difference? Its not easy but it can be important. Tonight I saw the following and got geekily re-inspired: Join the Linux users of VA in the fight for a Windows Free VAI know that there are probably many windows users in this community who are against what I’m about to say. But I support having windows-free businesses and bars in Virginia, and this message is for people who feel the same; that people who don’t like linux should not run linux establishments or go to linux establishments, or should shut their pie holes. The Linux Users of VA needs you! This session, the General Assembly will once again consider making the Commonwealth windows-free. We need your help to convince the legislators that the people of Virginia support open software and awesome desktop environments. We need you at Lobby Day 2009!On Wednesday, January 21, the Linux Users of Virginia will march on the General Assembly in Richmond to give voice to the 5% of Virginians who actually care about the government ditching Windows in favor of free, open software. With your help, we’ll meet with legislators to explain the dangers of Micro$oft and ask for their support to not use M$ products.Lobby Day also includes free lunch and the chance to win a free Ubuntu CD. We want to make it worth your while to join us.
We’ll also provide training and information for you to share with your legislator. Please comment here if you’re interested in joining the Linux Users of VA on Lobby Day, or you e-mail me at linuxdude69@gmail.com.For more info about Linux, check out http://www.ubuntu.org
