Dr. D.C. Amarasinghe, M.D. Runs on Green Party Ticket for U.S. Congress in Virginia's Second District.
After presenting over fifteen hundred signatures to the Virginia State Board
of Elections, Tidewater area resident and local physician Dr. D.C.
Amarasinghe was confirmed July 18th to appear on November's ballot as a
Green Party candidate to the U.S. House of Representatives. Dr. Amarasinghe
(known to his friends simply as "D.C.") hopes to reach out to citizens from
all constituencies toward the common goals of corporate responsibility,
environmental protection, social justice, and affordable health care. As a
member of Physicians for Universal Health Insurance, D.C. has for years been
on the front line in the fight for a single-payer, national health care
system, which has been estimated to save us $200 billion per year by
reducing overhead and implementing checks on the rampant profiteering
currently seen in both the insurance and pharmaceutical sectors. "As a
doctor", says D.C., "I know that affordable health care for all will help
save money and lives."
Dr. Amarasinghe has been practicing medicine in the Tidewater area of
Virginia for 30 years, receiving certification as a surgeon from the
American Board of Surgery in 1978. Born in Sri Lanka in 1941, he graduated
from Medical School University of Ceylon in 1967, held an internship at St.
Joseph's Hospital in Lorain, Ohio from 1969 to 1970, a residency at Wayne
State University's General & Transplant Surgery Division, and served on the
Detroit General & Veteran's Administration from 1970 until 1975. He is
married to Narlie Amarasinghe and is the proud father of six children. He
can be reached for questions at the addresses below, at which contributions
may also be sent. The Green Party does not accept corporate contributions.
