Dear Virginia Greens,
As you know, this Sunday the 6th at 2pm is the continuation of our state
party teleconference business meeting that we began two weeks ago. We
expect to take no more than two hours to complete the meeting. Local
reps, as before please let me know if your local will be represented by
an alternate, who it is, and how to contact them. At the bottom of this
email is the standard set of instructions for joining the call.
We will continue our agenda from last time. Specifically we will discuss
our committee structure, the formation of a Political Response Team, an
autumn GPVA Summit, and the use of Loomio.
Tamar and I have discussed, not just with each other but with several of
you, how we might best go about resolving questions about our committee
structure. We would like to suggest that each participant provide their
own and/or their local's perspective or preferences on what standing
committees we should have and what they should do. (Fredericksburg has
already emailed all of us, providing a template for the kind of input we
would be asking for.)
After this discussion, we would like to propose a resolution that a
committee be elected to do two things. First, to gather information from
the entire membership on priorities for our standing committees,
probably using Loomio as suggested by Casey and Bryce. Then, the
committee should formulate a proposed committee structure, including any
needed bylaws changes, and with a clear formulation of their duties, and
forward this proposal to the co-chairs to be placed on the agenda of our
next business meeting. There should be a clear timeline for the
committee to follow, not taking longer than six weeks or less from start
to finish.
Nominations for the "committee on committees" could be taken within a
very few days after Sunday's meeting, and Approval Voting can be done
online using OpaVote to select the members from among the nominees. It
would be especially nice to see local members who may not be local reps
or state officers bringing fresh energy to the task. As a practical
matter, it probably should not have too many people on it (<=5?) so that
meetings are easy to schedule, and so that there aren't "too many cooks
in the kitchen."
The Political Response Team is a separate notion that I hope we can
address as well. This isn't so much a committee as it is a set of
protocols for achieving timely political objectives, involving both
state officers and local political liaisons. Anyway we can see what
people think of the idea on Sunday.
Finally we will ask Tim to introduce the idea of the autumn summit, and
hope to hash out a clear plan for it.
We are looking forward to hearing from as many people as possible on Sunday.
Thanks!

IMPORTANT: While participating in the meeting remotely, it is critical
that you mute your phone/microphone except when you are speaking. The
background noise from a dozen phones and computers at once can make
hearing anyone impossible. When you wish to speak, unmute and say,
loudly and clearly, "[your name]--stack". The facilitator will add you
to the list of people waiting to speak, and ask you to do so in the
correct order. If you are joining by computer, you can also get on the
stack using the chat function.
Let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to seeing/hearing
folks in a few days!
